Brush Marks

The process of producing a texture resembling the straight grain of wood by manipulating a scumble or glaze over a painted opaque groundwork with suitable brushes (as distinct from the more imitative graining with accessory tools). The solution, if marks are not intended, is surfaces should always be smooth prior to paint application, and if porous, seal. The paints should be of a moderately thin consistency, brushed out to a thin, even coating.
