Our History

Horace Johns started trading under the name of H Johns Decorators Ltd at the location of 38 Dryden Street, Nottingham.

Johns were accredited with the National Federation of Master Painters and Decorators.

Johns outgrew the office at Dryden Street, in turn, this meant a relocation to Rick Street, Nottingham was necessary.

The new chairman, William Chapman, decided a change was necessary and altered the business name to 'Johns Decorators Ltd'.

With the company growing at a fast pace, we decided to become a limited company.

The company decided to operate nationwide after agreeing a successful contract with H. Curry & Sons, known today as Currys/PC World. Commisioned to redecorate and signwrite the majority of the nationwide branches which lasted 40 years through to the millennium.

John Chapman became chairman of Johns Decorators Ltd.

Johns (Decorators) Limited relocated to their new head office on Woodborough Road, Nottingham. This is still our home today.

Johns (Decorators) Limited officially changed their trading name to what it is currently known as today, Johns of Nottingham Limited.

Johns of Nottingham were commissioned to undertake their first large construction contract to decorate the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Redditch, which opened in 1985.

Part of the head office was reconstructed to incorporate the Johns Decorating Centre, which was and still is open to the trade and public.

Johns of Nottingham achieve their 75th anniversary in business. All of the staff were invited to celebrate at the Royal Hotel in Nottingham.

Leading to a new beginning with Russell Chapman becoming Managing Director of the business after John retired.

Johns of Nottingham opened a new division within the business to serve the insurance reinstatement claims sector, providing a professional service to loss adjusters. In the early 90’s, Johns of Nottingham carried our their first claim for Crawford and Company. Who to this day remain a client.

After 100 years trading in business. Johns of Nottingham treated all staff and their partners with a trip to Monaco to celebrate the occasion!

On Friday 24th July, our longest serving employee Denis Dyson reached his 60th year working with the company. This is a remarkable accomplishment for both Denis and Johns of Nottingham.

The insurance reinstatement division reached 25 years of serving the industry. To this day, the company has completed in excess of 6000 claims and counting...
